To me, sports have always been a great metaphor for life.  They represent the triumphs and challenges that each of us face as we grow into our identities.  I’ve learned from great athletes that competition becomes the ultimate character test and in speaking with Jason Buck, I got a glimpse into the heart and mind of a champion.

Jason and his Washington Redskins teammates will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their super bowl XXVI victory this fall and as they did back then, they will do so as a team.  Their coach, Joe Gibbs “had this expectation and you never wanted to let him down, so you always played your heart out for him.”  If you ever watched Jason play, as I did, you saw a blue collar player who played each play as if was his last, and when the game was on the line, he was at his best.

“As a young boy, I learned through the history of my family to ‘Be Strong’ – because that goes into the very fiber of your soul.  It’s about never quitting and never giving up… .”
