Success is highly personal and closely aligned with each of our respective belief systems. A few days ago, I had back to back conversations with two highly accomplished individuals who’ve achieved tremendous acclaim, but with styles that couldn’t be more different. My first conversation was with a financial industry giant who’s considered the superhero of his firm. He has reached the pinnacle by gathering billions in assets, building a highly productive team, and being a relentless networker – his mantra has always been the wall street cliche – ‘money never sleeps’.
My second conversation was with a rising star in the medicine who’s committed to changing the way we receive health care. Deservedly so, he continues to be the voice of entrepreneurship in medicine and he’s done it by openly sharing his knowledge, mentoring practitioners abroad, and winning over politicians, despite challenging their assumptions. His mantra has always been – ‘learn, share, grow’. Financially, neither will have to work again, and for generations,, their legacy is sure to live on – yet their rise to the top couldn’t be more different. Ironically, that same day, I was scheduled for a last minute conversation with Wharton Professor, Adam Grant to discuss his latest book – Give and Take. I had just finished the book and was fascinated by the depth of Adam’s research because it gave me a new lens to chart my future. What you’ll find will not only surprise you, but it just might change how you define success —
