No one will deny that we’re living in an insanely fast paced environment; real time news, non-stop tweets, status updates, and perhaps more importantly, a feeling that we’re always connected. On the one hand, I very much embrace the incredible convenience of digital technology, but at times, I wonder if we’re forgetting how to be human.
Although this reality is still in its infancy, media theorist Douglas Rushkoff reminds us that while it appears that we’re living in real time, ‘we tend to exist in a distracted present, where forces on the periphery are magnified and those immediately before us are ignored’.
