An incredible lesson for me has been recognizing the act of tolerating fear and learning how to tolerate uncertainty – it’s an actual feeling, a commitment to being human and an agreement you make with the world.  The majority of us experience fear simply because we think about it. The moment our mind shifts from ‘playing to win’ at something to the preverbal ‘playing not to lose’ we’ve already lost.  Take Serena Williams during the 2011 U.S. Open final –  she was two match points away from losing  when she made the shift from ‘how do I prevent myself from losing’ to ‘I need 14 points to win’; and what followed was another Grand Slam title.  So, what is it that inspires some to run towards fear while the majority run away from it – here’s what Srini’s research at Harvard reveals …..
