Few have impacted humanity, as the preeminent Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi. He was the quintessential face of compassion – always seeing the goodness in people, hardly their differences. He dedicated his life to fighting for freedom and advancing nonviolence, and through it all, challenged each one of us to find ourselves by getting lost in ‘the service of others.’ It is believed that Gandhi was a private man, with little wealth or formal power; yet he won the world over by teaching mankind that humility and truth are infinitely more powerful than any global empire.
I wish I were alive to have experienced, first hand his impact, but I’m glad to have connected with his fifth grandson, Arun Gandhi who’s keeping his dreams alive. Grandpa taught us that ‘poverty is the worse form of violence’; but it wasn’t until I spoke with Arun that I truly understood why passive violence is what’s fueling physical violence. Consider this.
