The trust deficit
According to leadership consultant, Nan Russell, only 12% of U.S. employees trust their leaders; while the vast majority see their leaders as fake. Having been in leadership positions my entire professional career, I’m alarmed, but not surprised by those dismal statistics. As I look back over a 20+ year career in the financial services industry, I identify only two senior leaders whom I truly trusted. They were individuals who embodied humility, resilience, and a high level of self-awareness. They build a massive amount of trust surplus with me simply because they were real and always honored their word.
