The Power of Perspective

In her book,  Business in Blue Jeans, Susan Baroncini-Moe shares a Biblical story (Num. 13:33 KJV) to demonstrate a mindset that each of us encounter at some point during our journey – “And there we saw the giants and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.”

Waiting on a friend a few days ago, I heard him yelling at his son, Jeremy because he was late going out to catch his bus, even though he was standing by the door.   Immediately after hearing his tone, I walked over to Jeremy and asked if he knew that his bus was outside, and in a very innocent voice, he turned to me and simply said ‘Mr. Moe, I can’t see outside, the glass is too high’.

I quickly took him outside, walked back in the house, and when my friend came down, I showed him that at 4 feet tall, Jeremy could barely touch the glass portion of the door, let alone see through it.  In that instant, both of us learned an important lesson about the power perspective; here’s how it works.
