Moe and Ed discuss public relations and how to survive your first years in the business and how to turn it into a prosperous, fulfilling career.
PR That Will Get You Noticed
Public Relations is inescapable – each of us does some form of it each day, still it’s the minority who handle it with the dignity and class that makes it resonate. At any given moment, someone, somewhere is shouting at you trying to convince you to buy their product. The sad irony, however, is that the more you hear it, the more likely that you’ll run away.
I remember reading an elegant description of PR by S.H. Simmons that really captured the essence of it for me when she said – “If a young man tells his date how handsome, smart and successful he is – that’s advertising. If the young man tells his date she’s intelligent, looks lovely, and is a great conversationalist, he’s saying the right things to the right person and that’s marketing. If someone else tells the young woman how handsome, smart and successful her date is – that’s PR.” So when Ed Zitron set out to build his own media relations firm, EZ-Pr he made it a promise never to do this.
