Reinventing Detroit
On July 18th, Amazon announced – Kindle Unlimited– a Netflix like service for book enthusiasts like myself, that offers unlimited access to over 600,000 eBooks, and audiobooks for $9.99 per month. Like Netflix before it, if Amazon succeeds, it will not only turn the one time book purchase into a recurring revenue stream, more importantly, it will take another step towards becoming ‘The Everything Store.‘
Since it’s founding in 1994, Amazon has been a polarizing company. In the first shareholders letter in 1997, Jeff Bezos proclaimed that ‘its all about the long term,” and in the two decades since, he hasn’t wavered on his promise. In Bezos’ world, It’s all about planting seeds, and letting them grow; its about pursuing opportunity with scale and vigor; all while obsessing over the customer experience. Not only have they redefined the world of retail, the complexity of fulfillment, and the nature of enterprise software; they’ve done it with the zest of a ‘day one’ startup.
In his book – The Road to Reinvention – Detroit Venture Partners CEO and Managing Partner, Josh Linkner shares the blueprint they’re using to reinvent downtown Detroit.
